Why “Not Like Moses”?
In 2012 I was lead guitarist and one of two song-writers in the band Gracious G. During a rehearsal one night in St Michael’s, Bemerton, in my mind I clearly heard the phrase “Don’t be Moses”. This stuck with me. On referring to the Bible I found the Moses had been told to lead and he said to God that he couldn’t speak as his voice wasn’t good enough.
But Moses said to the Lord, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” Then the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” But he said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.”
With this in mind I spent a year taking singing lessons. I have also take the opportunity of attending the wonderful local open mics. During that year, all the other members of Gracious G found they could not carry on due to other commitments. Since then, I have been amazed at how often I have been able to perform.
